Read this before you set goals for next year...
When you think back to the past year of your life, do you feel grateful and uplifted? Or do you feel heavy with regret and exhaustion?
I mean, let’s get real. No matter who you are or where you live, the end of the year can feel deeply bittersweet.
In fact, it’s a little like saying goodbye to a friend you’ve lived with, day in and day out, for 12 months.
Sure, you had your tough moments; arguments, misunderstandings and total breakdowns.
But you’ve also learned so much from each other. Through the smiles, the laughs and celebrations (...and that one time you _____ together when nobody was looking! )
Yep. Good or bad.
You were stuck together, whether you liked it or not.
And looking back now, it’s like looking into a mirror.
The choices you made, the places you went and the experience you had throughout the past twelve months.....
They are the very things that made you who you are today.
In fact, if you looked at your reflection in your bathroom mirror, it’s exactly what you would see.
Your past.
This body, this mind, this heart, this everything you see?
It’s everything you’ve ever done/seen/believed/experienced/felt in all the years of your life.
But when was the last time you looked back and actually reflected on the life that’s made you...well, you?
Today invite you to take some time to turn away from the world and reflect on yourself and the life you’ve been living up until this point.
Pause. Reflect. Honour.
And simply be with you and where you are.
There will be a time to dream about the future. Sure, New Years Resolutions can feel exciting and invigorating...
But before you set up your vision board and consult your spirit guides about the path to come, I have to ask you a couple of questions, my friend.
What have you felt?
Where have you been?
Who have you become?
And are you ready to express gratitude for all that brought you here today?
The people. The places. The situation.
The moments alone and gathered in community.
The long nights and crazy days.
The “I love you” moments and the “Why is this happening to me?!” days.
They twisted, they danced, they moved through you like the wind moves through the trees.
Carving you. Moulding you. Revealing you.
In every way possible.
You may have felt exhausted. You may have lost hope. You may have wished that things could be different.
But no matter what your life has looked like in the past year.
It’s the winding path that has led you to this place in your life.
With a smiling soul and a hopeful heart.
Trusting, that no matter what you said, or didn’t say. No matter what you did, or didn’t do. No matter what you felt, or didn’t felt.
In the end, it was enough. And it will always be enough.
So before you finish up your cup of tea and move back into the end of the year...remember this… there will come a day in your life, when there is no more looking forward. The reflection in the mirror? That will be all that you have.
This body. This mind. This heart. This everything.
The unique and wonderful tapestry of who you’ve been, every single day of your life.
So if you’ve been yearning to love yourself, today. Maybe it’s time to be grateful towards who you were, yesterday.
She deserves it too. I promise.
